The Meatpacking District
Previously home to the meat industry, the Meatpacking District on Vesterbro, Copenhagen, is one of the trendiest places to be today. Butchers are still located in the area, but they share it with a cultural cluster of popular restaurants, nightclubs and art galleries. The Meatpacking District is buzzing with life – day and night!
In 1995, the Danish Ministry for Culture protected the buildings and their façades. It is now considered an industrial heritage worth preserving, and not without reason: the raw look and vibe of the district is a perfect location for culture to thrive.
During the summer, the Meatpacking District’s market fills up with 70 food stalls. Here you can enjoy delicious, homemade dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. The focus of the market is towards exceptional ingredients that you can really notice, taste and smell. You can get your lunch at the stalls, eat dinner at one of the many restaurants that surround the market, or buy the ingredients necessary to prepare an amazing meal at home. The market is open each Saturday as well as on the first Sunday of each month from April to September.
Do yourself a favour when you are in Copenhagen: visit the market at the Meatpacking District! The market was awarded the “best of the city” in 2015 by AOK. This is a huge achievement, which only goes to show just how important the market has become to the citizens of Copenhagen.
The Meatpacking District has been home to food and everything that it entails for more than 80 years. It seems obvious to have a market here! Surrounding the market are the restaurants and bars that are unique but share in one central belief: that quality is everything!
